UITabBarController with swipe interaction between its tabs.

Overview

SwipeableTabBarController

Version iOS 8.0+ Swift 4.2 Cartage License codebeat badge

🌟 Features

  • Zero setup
  • Different animations
  • Enable/Disable interactions easily
  • Fluid gestures

📲 Installation

Using CocoaPods

Edit your Podfile and specify the dependency:

pod 'SwipeableTabBarController'

Using Carthage

Edit your Cartfile and specify the dependency:

github "marcosgriselli/SwipeableTabBarController"

Manual

Drop the classes inside of SwipeableTabBarController/Classes into your project.

👩‍💻 How to use

Setup

If you don't need subclassing UITabBarController just set the UITabBarController on the Storyboard to be of type SwipeableTabBarController.

Otherwise, make a subclass of SwipeableTabBarController.

import SwipeableTabBarController

class TabBarController: SwipeableTabBarController {
    // Do all your subclassing as a regular UITabBarController.
}

Animations

SwipeableTabBarController supports 3 different types of animations out of the box. Setting the desired animation is easy. On your SwipeableTabBarController subclass just do:

swipeAnimatedTransitioning?.animationType = SwipeAnimationType.sideBySide

If you are supporting just one type of animation call it on viewDidLoad() otherwise call it as you need to change the desired animation.

Side by Side (default)

The default animation is SwipeAnimationType.sideBySide where the newly selected tab will move in at the same speed the previous one moves out.

Overlap

SwipeAnimationType.overlap the newly selected tab will move in to take the central place on top of the previous one which will hold it's position.

Push

SwipeAnimationType.push follows iOS default push animation where the top view moves away while the bottom one slightly moves behind. In this case, the top view will be the previously selected tab view.

Enable Cycling

SwipeableTabBarController supports cycling between the first and last tab like a carousel. Simply set isCyclingEnabled to true.

Default value is false

isCyclingEnabled = true

Minimum/Maximum number of touches

You can set both the minimum and the maximum number of touches needed to handle the swipe gesture. Simply set minimumNumberOfTouches or maximumNumberOfTouches property.

Default value is 1

minimumNumberOfTouches = 2

Default value is Int.max

maximumNumberOfTouches = 2

Disable Interaction

Support for disabling/enabling the interactor, this can be used on a controller that uses horizontal scrollView or a Map (in the example).

Default value is true

isSwipeEnabled = false

  • setSwipeTabBarEnabled(enabled: Bool) conflicts with UIGesture

    setSwipeTabBarEnabled(enabled: Bool) conflicts with UIGesture

    Is it possible to traverse this protocol for a UIView instead of a UIViewController? I have a UITableViewCell with a horizontal scrolling UICollectionView in it and it seems to conflict with the UIPangesture (I'm assuming) so it swipes between the UITabBarController's view controllers instead of scrolling through the UICollectionView in the UITableViewCell.

    Use UIViewPropertyAnimator for interruptible and cancelable transitions

    Attempt to add a workaround for #52. I'm having some good results using the example app with an iPhone 11 Pro. This is not the ideal solution but avoiding black screens is the goal for the moment.

    SwipeableTabBarController freezes after a few swipes

    Hello,

    I was checking out your framework and decided to try out the demo project. Unfortunately, it freezes every time after a few swipes; no errors are displayed, it just stops responding. Not sure if's me or something, but I downloaded it straight from here (v1.3.0) and have the latest xCode (9.4.1). ¯_(ツ)_/¯

  • Flickering  when starts swiping

    Flickering when starts swiping

    This doesn't happen all the time, but it's quite easy to reproduce. Just swipe slowly between pages/tabs and you'll notice flickering when swipe starts. It looks like smth is fighting between each other to get the correct position. I didn't test other transition types, but it's happening for sideBySide transition to me.

    Good day Sir @marcosgriselli , I am Tobaloidee and i am a Graphics Designer. I want to contribute to your nice project if you will permit me, regarding a logo design which i am going to do as a gift for free. I'll wait for your approval before I start designing Sir. I've noticed that it doesn't have a logo yet so i thought of helping out. Thanks and best regards!

  • Setting the subclass correctly

    Setting the subclass correctly

    For some reason, the animations aren't working? I think this might have to do something with one of my view controllers having a navigation controller. I'll see if I can get more info on this issue because it was working perfectly fine before I tampered with one of the view controllers on storyboard.

    add feature: cycling tabBar

    Hi, marcostriselli.

    I made the Cycling Tab Bar feature. if set true 'isCyclingEnabled', you can swipe firstVC to lastVC. The opposite is also possible.

    Thank you, master.

  • Swipe to mapView sometimes causes wrong index ?

    Swipe to mapView sometimes causes wrong index ?

    Hi there, I'm having a issue working with your pod.

    I got those 3 view controllers embed in a custom UITabBarController, child of SwipeableTabBarController : screen shot 2018-05-21 at 11 18 22

    As you can see, my second controller contains a MKMapView.

    Here's the problem: when my app opens, if I start scrolling quickly after the first view appears, the tab bar won't move at all when scrolled. I can only change tab by tapping the tab bar items. However when tapping the second tab then the first one again, my app will crash with : "Attempted to read an unowned reference but the object was already deallocated". Showing this : screen shot 2018-05-21 at 11 18 22

    I found that setting self.selectedIndex = 0 in the TabBarController viewDidLoad method fixes the issue. But when doing this, the scroll seems disabled until I first tap on a tab bar item. After this it works fine.

    I only saw that bug when adding a MKMapView though.

    Thanks!

  • Using SwipeableTabBarController with inner UINavigationController having few children controllers

    Using SwipeableTabBarController with inner UINavigationController having few children controllers

    Hello!

    In case of structure:

    • SwipeableViewController
      • UINavigationController
        • UIViewController
          • UIViewController - let's call it inner controller (with back button in the navigationbar)

    So, when I'm seeing this inner controller, I can't swipe between SwipeableViewController children controllers. I can swipe to make 'back' action from the edge of the screen and that's it.

    How can I solve this one? I think it is common action which is not described in README

    Thanks.
