Overview

Moonwalk

A simple way to stay up to date with upcoming space launches, built with React-Native, using the Launch Library 2 and the Spaceflight News API.

Installation

If you want to test the app on a simulator running locally, follow these instructions:

First, you'll need to create or import a GoogleService-Info.plist file in the ios folder. Next, use the following commands:

$ cd moonwalk

$ yarn

$ cd ios && pod install && cd ..

$ yarn build-ios

$ react-native run-ios

Android

I don't plan to release an Android version of Moonwalk at the current time.

Standalone Build

$ yarn build-ios

To see the assets (Images) in your build, open the XCode project, right click on the moonwalk target -> "Add files to Moonwalk" -> select the asset folder, and make sure the 'create folder references' checkbox is ticked.

You should be able to build the app with ⌘(cmd)+B.

Launch Library 2 support
Since Launch Library 1 is deprecated and will stop working in the future, I took the liberty to update the app to use Launch Library 2, from The Space Devs. I'm a partner developer within this group (Spaceflight News API; thanks for using it!). I have your app installed for quite some time now, and I really like the clean design.

What I did was simply rename some of the properties that have a different name in LL2. Since LL2 doesn't have things like netstamps, I've also done quite a few Date-parsings to get the NET to seconds. For most (if not all) time values, I've used the NET time. Some other things that are good to know:

Descriptions are not always available. This is now checked when entering the "Details" screen. Check the upcoming Gaofen launch for an example;

There are no longer mission wiki's in the response. I've changed this to LSP wiki pages;

The "To be Determined" section might be obsolete now;

I have not tested notifications;

One of the tests is failing (the ResultCard one). I'm not sure why, so I've skipped it for now but you might wanna take a look at that :)

It's good to keep in mind that LL2 is free to use for 300 calls per day, per IP.

Spaceflight News API v2

Hi, me again!

This time, I've added support for Spaceflight News API v2. V1 will be disabled on February 1st.

I'm working on a new Mac Mini with the new M1 processor. The images library RN uses doesn't like that arch yet, so I don't see any images loading. I suspect that's just me though.

Still looking at the tests, but so far it's looking good IMO.

BREAKING CHANGES:

access to prototype properties is forbidden completely by default, specific properties or methods can be allow via runtime-options. See #1633 for details. If you are using Handlebars as documented, you should not be accessing prototype properties from your template anyway, so the changes should not be a problem for you. Only the use of undocumented features can break your build.

Security:

The properties __proto__, __defineGetter__, __defineSetter__ and __lookupGetter__ have been added to the list of "properties that must be enumerable". If a property by that name is found and not enumerable on its parent, it will silently evaluate to undefined. This is done in both the compiled template and the "lookup"-helper. This will prevent new Remote-Code-Execution exploits that have been published recently.

Compatibility notes:

Due to the security-fixes. The semantics of the templates using __proto__, __defineGetter__, __defineSetter__ and __lookupGetter__ in the respect that those expression now return undefined rather than their actual value from the proto.

The semantics have not changed in cases where the properties are enumerable, as in:

{ __proto__: 'some string' }

The change may be breaking in that respect, but we still only increase the patch-version, because the incompatible use-cases are not intended, undocumented and far less important than fixing Remote-Code-Execution exploits on existing systems.

The minimal supported version of React is 16.8.0

Killed the possibility to directly pass store names to observer. Always use inject instead. (This was deprecated for a long time already). observer(["a", "b"], component) should now be written as inject("a", "b")(component).

observer components no longer automatically recover from errors (to prevent potential memory leaks). Instead, this is the responsibility of error boundaries.

inject now supports ref forwarding. As such, the .wrappedInstance property has been removed since refs can be used instead. (Fixes #616 (See also #619 by 42shadow42)

Changing the set of stores in Provider is no longer supported and while throw a hard error (this was a warning before), as the model of Provider / inject has always been designed to inject final values into the tree. (That is, constanted references, the injected objects themselves can be stateful without problem). If you want to dynamically swap what is provided into the tree, use React.createContext instead of Provider / inject. The suppressChangedStoreWarningflag forProvider` has been dropped.

The third argument of custom storesToProps functions passed to inject is no longer available.

<Observer> no longer supports the deprecated inject property.

Defining shouldComponentUpdate on observer based components is no longer supported

propTypes is no longer exposed, use PropTypes instead

disposeOnUnmount now only supports direct subclasses of React.Component and React.PureComponent. This prevents several unreliable edge cases that silently leaked memory before. Either only extend React.(Pure)Component when using disposeOnUnmount, or manually clean up stuff in componentWillUnmount.

The onError global error handler has been removed. Use error boundaries instead.

Dropped support for a build of mobx-react that doesn't target either react-dom or react-native. mobx-react doesn't need react-dom to be present, but to make sure your build tools don't fail, you might want to stub react-dom as an empty module.

The componentWillReact has been dropped

The MobX-react devtools (either as package or browser plugin) are no longer supported. Instead, the following tools can be analyzed to analyze your mobx-react application:

Visualizing re-rendering of components is now part of the standard React devtools

The dependency tree of a compent tree can be inspected by showing the state of the useObserver hook in the React devtools (at the time of this release it displays as just Object, but the next iteration of the React devtools will support those properly)

Spying on events can still be done with the MobX-react browser plugin, through the mobx-logger package or manually by using the spy or trace utility from the mobx package.

Improvements

Hook based components are now supported by mobx-react (in fact, the package is now implemented using hooks)

Using PureComponent is now recommended.

For observer based components, there will now be an additional Observer component in the tree.

Two new hooks have been exposed, in case you want to manage local state in observable: useLocalStore and useAsObservableSource.

MobXProviderContext is now exposed from the package, in case you want to consume the context used by Provider with a useContext hook.
