Feature Request: Option to auto-save received images/video to camera roll

Nearly all other chat apps allow some form of auto-save to camera roll/image gallery of received images and videos. Matching this functionality in Signal would be great option, preferably on a per-conversation/per-contact basis.

SECURITY ISSUE: Signal doesn't strip EXIF from sent images, including precise location data

    • [X] I have searched open and closed issues for duplicates

    Bug description

Signal for iOS includes EXIF data in sent images, including precise GPS data if present. Instead, EXIF data should be stripped (possibly except for the absolute bare minimum such as dimension and rotation).

    Steps to reproduce

    • Enable Location access for Camera.app
    • Take a picture with Camera.app
    • Send that picture from the Camera Roll using Signal
    • Recipient uses the share sheet to save the image, then opens it in an app such as ExifWizPro

Actual result: Recipient sees the precise location the image was taken, along with all other EXIF fields Expected result: Recipient sees no EXIF data whatsoever, as is the case when using Threema

Since the update to v. 3.1.0.20 there is this delay again while entering especially longer conversations. It seems to me that the longer the conversation the longer the delay. I already mentioned it in the community:

    https://community.signalusers.org/t/beta-feedback-for-the-upcoming-ios-3-1-release/10624/42?u=patjolata

The issue seems to be very similar to the delay we had in opening conversations after the update to v. 3.0:

    https://github.com/signalapp/Signal-iOS/issues/4323

    Steps to reproduce

    • Open Signal
    • Tap on a conversation to enter it

Actual result: Conversations are opened with a delay.

Expected result: No delay, just the smooth animation.

  • Support for multiple devices for the same account

Support for multiple devices for the same account

Similar to iMessage et al. I wish I could use Signal on multiple devices, using the same phone number. I would e.g. like to use Signal on my private iPhone and iPad, but as well on my business iPhone. I am already doing the same with iMessage. The private iPhone is used for authenticating the other devices via SMS text message. I would assume that something similar should be possible with Signal.

I am not familiar with the cryptography used for Signal and Textsecure, but I would assume that one could encrypt using multiple keys, one for each device. But I have actually no idea, how Textsecure works in real life. ;)

    Bug description

When listening to voice notes, you have two options, loudspeaker or 'ear-speaker'. The loud speaker option works fine. The ear-speaker option produces no sound, not even the notification chime that the voicenote has completed. The screen turns black using the proximity sensor, and the voice note continues to play silently.

Note: Phonecalls work as they did previously. Voicenotes worked fine when using it on previous versions of the app.

    Steps to reproduce

    • Click play on voicenote in chat.
    • Once it is playing, raise handset to ear, with the screen facing your face.
    • Listen to the voicenote until completion.

Actual result: Describe here what happens after you run the steps above (i.e. the buggy behaviour)

    • A completely silent audio plays.
    • The audio file progresses normally.
    • There is no notification that the audio has completed.
    • ☑️ The screen turns off as expected, until the user raises the phone away from face.
    • ☑️ The audio transitions to speakerphone as expected.

Expected result: Describe here what should happen after you run the steps above (i.e. what would be the correct behaviour)

    • Voicenote audio plays audibly from the ear-speaker,
    • unless the phone is raised away from user's face. Then the audio will transition to speakerphone.
    • A chime to play at completion of the audio from the ear-speaker.

    Bug description

    1. Some of my messages are flying above the other messages and are rendered weirdly. Those messages don't move, when I scroll and are pinned on top of the screen. If I scroll more, the messages stop moving and seem to belong to this place of the chat, although they were sent at a much later time.
    2. Other messages are scaled weird and obscure parts of their text.
    3. Messages can obscure other messages.
